Service was fantastic and the food was even better. I am not a fan of seafood, at least I was not until Mama's. The seared 'ahi' for appetizer and the 'mahi-mahi' for the main course both convinced me that I had not every truly had seafood until that point! Try the rasberry dessert wine that is made on the island, wonderful is the only word to describe it. I will definitely be going back to Maui in the future and Mama's is on my list of places to hit again! |

I first visited Mama's when I was on my honeymoon in 1985 -- I fell in love with fresh seafood on my visit there. Over the years, when we make it to Maui, I always insist upon carving time out for Mama's for lunch. To sit in their dining room, whoozy with an exotic drink and admiring the view of palm trees and ocean -- the only thing that makes it better is the fabulous meal that follows. I visited Mama's again last week -- different man as my escort (I'm divorced now), same wonderful time. I had a Relaxer with my appetizer before lunch -- I was relaxed the rest of the afternoon. The fish, as always, was moist and tender and seasoned to perfection. |

Well, at least we can say that the decor was beautiful. The server (a blond woman in her mid-20's...try to avoid her!) was really rude and careless, spilling food, even getting offended when I ordered dressing on the side (she refused to do so). I see that other reviews praise the excellent service. I guess we were there on an "off day." We won't go back to find out. (Just a note...I used to work in food service and understand how challenging the job is...so I try very hard to be friendly and understanding with waitstaff. But this was way out of line, especially for such a pricey restaurant.) |

This was the ONLY restaurant during our 10-eay stay where the server absolutely refused to ask the chef if substitutions were possible. She replied, in a shocked voice, "Oh, NO. Absolutely NOT. The chef will NOT make changes." (I have severe food allergies. The server kept telling me, "oh, the flavor isn't very strong" and couldn't seem to understand that my reasonable request wasn't one of flavor preference. None of the other restaurants we visited seemed to find my requests unreasonable.)
Of the six in our party, only two said they enjoyed their entrees. The rest of us agreed that we would never return.
Watch out for the watery fruit drinks, too.
Never again. |

We visited Mama's by chance on our trip around the island. We were impressed with everthing about Mama's. If you get a chance you must go there. It refuels the soul. |

A friend and I braved the dark roads in January for the hour long drive from Kaanapali to Mama's. It was worth every hair raising turn. The service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious! I especially liked the Hawaiiana decor. |
