On our last trip to Maui(June-2001) my wife and I dined at Mama's for lunch twice. We had never eaten there before. Believe me when I say I am pretty frugal when it comes to spending a lot of money for lunch but the $80-$90 price tag for the delicious lunch we had both times was WELL worth it. The food, the ambiance, the breeze from the almost unreal setting, and last but not least the service and attention we received was the best. We will ALWAYS go back to Mama's for lunch or dinner whenever we are in Maui in the future and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. Even if you don't plan to eat there you should just go look at the place and see the setting and take a look at the unbelievable flower arrangements inside... |

Just read the above critical review. These people must have offended someone. We have eaten at Mama's every time we go to Maui. Same great service, same great drinks, same great food. Trying kicking back and smiling at the Hawaiians, it helps. |

On our last trip to Maui, my husband and I dined here. We had heard such rave reviews re the food, location, and service, we were looking forward to a lovely evening. What a letdown! To be fair, the food and location were outstanding, but this was overshadowed service so offensively poor, it seemed deliberate. We arrived at the restaurant early in the evening. In fact we were the first ones there. We were seated by a young woman who took our drink orders and then disappeared. By that I mean we did not see her again for the rest of the evening. Other guests arrived and were seated. After about 20 minutes we noticed these other folks were receiving their drinks (ours were still nowhere to be seen). There was a man in an aloha shirt greeting people and taking orders, but when my husband tried to get his attention, he looked away. I'm not joking! We finally did get someone to bring our drinks, but no one came over to take our dinner orders. By this time, some of the folks who arrived after us were enjoying their meals, while we were sitting there, ignored. Finally, my husband got up and spoke to the man in the aloha shirt who came to our table and inquired, blank-faced (once again, I'm not joking) "How can I help you?" He grudgingly brought us menus and took our order. The meal was actually quite good, but I still left with a bad taste in my mouth. The service for the rest of the evening was diffident at best. The girl who served us dropped our entrees on the table and brought the check without asking us if we wanted dessert. Also, the bill was incorrect. I would like to mention, we were appropriately dressed and not the least bit overt in our behavior. This was particurly unpleasant because it was our last night on Maui, and we had been looking forward to a special evening. Someday I'll go back to Maui, but I'll never go back to Mama's |
