Stonecreek Diner Opened January 2004 in the long-abandoned building for the former Bill Knapp's restaurant at the corner of N Hill Rd and Stonecreek Dr. Opened by the Agganis family who are Pickerington residents and owners of another restaurant in Lancaster called Todd's Mountain View. The father, Harry Agganis, came from Greece in 1969 according to a recent The Columbus Dispatch article. His Son, Steve, is a graduate of Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts is the executive chef for the restaurant. Another son, Stelio will run day-to-day operations of the restaurant. The restaurant offers made-from-scratch dishes and several seafood platters including fried perch, haddock and grilled salmon. Also a specialty is the broasted chicken. The diner menu has over 40 items.

Family went out to eat at Stonecreek Diner, you might miss the place which only has signs on the building at the corner of Stonecreek and Hill Rd N. The restaurant is the next intersection south of the traffic light for the Marcus Theaters/Barnes & Nobles shopping plaza. There were six of us and we ordered as follows:
Appetizer: Very good mozarella sticks however there were only 5. Not enough for everyone, waitress could have let us know or stated on menu. Just a minor issue.
Drinks, free refills. $1.25 each Also a plus for the waitress was the complementary milk brought out for the kids to go with the waffle (they had bought soda.)
Time to deliver the appetizer and salads was excellent, time to main meal was very slow. We probably spent 90 minutes total at the restaurant. This again is likely to improve with experience. They were 70% filled on a week night, and appeared to have trouble keeping up with the crowd.
Broasted Chicken which is lightly battered/breaded and placed in a specially designed Broaster Co cooker which seals the chicken under pressure, locking the tender chicken with no greasy taste at all. Off the dinners, this was the best choice and a specialty of the house. Fries and a colorful salad were chosen as sides, both were excellent. Square dinner rolls also came with the meal, which were soft and very good. Rating for this meal: *****
Cost: $6.45
The catfish dinner with sides mashed potatoes and macoroni salad did not fare as well. The deep fried catfish was undercooked and not a very good quality fish. Mashed potatoes were oversalted, the rolls again were excellent. My acid test of telling the waitress about the problem should have brought a manager. Not only did it not bring a manager, the waitress failed to follow-up on the meal. Out waitress appeared nervous and the service was less the excellent. She was trying very hard though and I have no doubt it will improve with experience. Rating for the meal: *
Cost: $8.25
Belgium Waffle: Excellent, my daughter raved about the waffle and so did others at our table who tried it. They do serve breakfast all day. Rating for this meal: *****
Cost: $3.95
Kid's Meal - Spaghetti w/ meatball - Spaghetti was very good, although she liked the Belgium Waffle shared from another plate better. Rating: ****
Cost: $3.50
Reuben sandwich - Excellent, don't expect a tall stacked New York style, but this hot sandwich was very good. Served with fries, very crispy and cole slaw was also very good. Rating for this meal: ****
Cost: $5.75
Chicken Parmesian:
Excellent Chicken Breast appeared to be broasted and topped generously with cheese. Spaghetti was very good, although I ran out of sauce before spaghetti. Served with salad, garlic bread (very good). Rating for this meal: *****
Cost: $6.75
Dessert was Lemon Marange Pie and sundaes. Both were excellent. $2.25 and single scoop for $1.45.
Overall excellent food, but stay away from the catfish. Give it a try for yourself and keep in mind that most of the wait staff are still new at their job.
The decor is American Diner with many booths and tables for 4 and 6 (or more.) When you first walk in one wall has a picture of an old movie theater playing an Elvis movie and '50s cars. A large silver saucer hangs from the ceiling for the entrance lighting. This is a large restaurant (seats well over 100) with a smoking area well separated in another room from the main area. We were in non-smoking and had no issues with any smoke venting to our area.
You pay for the meal at the register and this required no waiting. |
