Second time I've gone to CBS since they
reopened after the fire. I went there
for my birthday this time because I
couldn't get near the Aquariaum in
Kemah. My flounder was nice sized,
cooked well. My wife's stuffed crabs,
(She ordered crab cakes, but they claimed she ordered stuffed crabs-I
believe her) were OK, but nothing special. They had too much stuffing and
not much crab. The service was sub-average, and not particularly friendly. |

For those of you who haven't been to this quaint little restaurant in Bacliff, you're missing out on some of the best crab fingers in SE TX. The Flying Dutchman in Kemah has good ones, and until I tried Clifton's, they were my favorite. Sauteed in butter and garlic, and lightly sprinkled with herbs...my mouth is watering just writing this...these little fingers are FANTASTIC for a snack or an appetizer!
Then there are the specials! Every day/night of the week, Clifton's offers specials ranging from shrimp to catfish to prime rib for $9.99. They are served with salad and crackers...not fancy, but excellent quality and quantity, unless you're a "Big Texan" and can eat a 72 oz steak at one sitting.
The service is great and so is the view! Give it a try. They can be pricey, but hey, you can spend $100 at Papa John's, too... |

After our visit to clifton's by the sea which is rare since we live in Ft. Worth, I do have to say with disapoinment yeah, it is pricey. For the 5 in our party it was close to $100.
However! the service was nice, I love not being let go thirsty! Thanks for the refills.
I think over all seafood is expencive anywhere. No matter where you go.
It is a great place to eat, & we stayed a while taking in the view. Staff didn't rush us out the door which was very nice!
The place was clean & I give Clifton by the sea an A+ for that alone.
If it's possible the menu could use a few changes starting with better prices.
Needs more and bigger shrimp for the cocktail was way over priced. Our kids were disapointed on that. Cook could take the vinegar out of the cole slaw.
Over all* we had a good time.
Food: A little high priced
Service: We were very well taken care of.
Ambiance:Very clean, with no minor flaws. |

Has potential but it is all wasted.
Last time I was there, I watch two families get up and leave because the surrounding tables were being swarmed by flys. Don't eat outside! |

For awhile after Clifton By The Sea reopened after burning down, my family and I were encouraged that it might regain its previous good quality. Alas, in recent visits (we've made our last) that has not proven true. The cook apparently has discovered some petrochemical byproduct with which to coat the fried seafood that doubles for rubber. It's hard to even get the rubbery outer coating off to see if there's any real seafood underneath. The shrimp slaw which previously was delicious was mushy, salty, and nary a shrimp could be found in any of our servings. |
